Is Tableau or Crystal Reports a better solution?

Crystal Reports is mainly for canned reports. Tabular reports, pixel-perfect reporting to print.Tableau is for visualisations and dashboards. Using Tableau, a business user can quickly identify insights from your data by simply dragging and dropping the fields.

In which order should one learn data analytics tools viz. R, Python, Hadoop, Tableau, SQL?

I would prefer SQL,Hadoop and Tableau, you should have intermediate knowlodge on these 3 technologies. Then proceed with Python and R (advanced one).

Where can I learn Tableau for free?

You can download Tableau Desktop from Tableau official website. It's a 15 days free version.You can refer Tableau site for the tutorial, and youtube has many good videos.Note: If you are a student, you will get one year licenced version for free from Tableau.

Tableau Desktop mainly for Development purpose. It can be used to creating worksheets, dashboards, stories connecting to data sources which can be files or DB server.
We can share the workbook locally, and the end user should have Tableau Desktop or Tableau Reader in their workstation.

Tableau Server:

Tableau Server can be used to publish the worksheet, dashboard and stories that are created using Tableau Desktop
Once uploaded the server, then the user can view the content, but they do not require Tableau Desktop or Tableau Reader in their work station.
Tableau Admin can set permission for each user, whether they can view, make changes, edit.
