As you have an MBA in finance and have acquired four years of work experience in the research field, you should think about something more relavant to your qualification and experience so that all your previous hard work can compliment in your potential job. Some areas that you can explore are Financial modelling (for M&A jobs, stock/valuation analysis), FP&A or business finance, which directly works with company business and operation, project finance or project management, data science, SAP FICO etc. In all these above mentioned, you will able to use your existing skills that you from your previous domain. Instead of going for a domain that is popular in the market, I would suggest you go for a field that you are interested and good at it. To work to the fullest potential one needs to have a high level of enthusiasm and interest in the area, especially if you are thinking from a long term perspective. Assess whether you already have skills in project management such as time management skills, resource management, communication skill, technical skills like MS project, etc., Otherwise start exploring courses to improve these skills.
