In WordPress, filters are functions that allow you to modify data before it is presented to the user or stored in the database. They provide a way to customize and manipulate various aspects of WordPress functionality without directly altering the core code. Filters are a fundamental part of the WordPress Plugin API and are widely used in themes and plugins to extend and modify WordPress behavior.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, WordPress Gutenberg primarily focuses on the content editing experience and may not provide advanced options for editing categories directly within the editor. Categories, along with other taxonomy terms like tags, are usually managed in the WordPress admin area rather than the content editor.

To edit or manage categories in WordPress, you typically go to the "Posts" or "Pages" section in the admin dashboard and then navigate to "Categories" under the "Posts" or "Pages" menu. There, you can add, edit, or delete categories.

Please note that WordPress and its plugins are frequently updated, and new features may have been introduced since my last update. I recommend checking the latest WordPress documentation or experimenting with the Gutenberg editor to see if any new features related to category management have been added.

If you find that the Gutenberg editor doesn't provide the functionality you need, you might still need to use the traditional WordPress admin interface for managing categories.
