X rays are produced when a metal target hits a target. Electrons are emitted from the cathode(filament of -ive potential). The tube is partially evacuated(low pressure, 10^-6 to 10^-8 mm of hg). The target is +ive (anode, mostly W). The high-velocity electron beam hits the target(kept at 45 deg).
The anode and cathode should have PD of 20kV. When an electron hits the target KE of the electron is converted in the form of radiation known as X-rays.
