English is, almost certainly, the most crucial subject that one can learn in school. Without knowing proper English, students find it very difficult to communicate effectively. A person who does not possess good English language skills limits his or her ability to achieve the highest potential. Knowledge of the English language is essential to be able to communicate with others, in the teaching of immigrant students, and in finding and maintaining a job. This is the reason it becomes paramount to teach children English right from their foundational years. It’s not a cakewalk to learn and gain fluency in English and hence the NCERT prescribed books which help students to gain proper knowledge and understanding of the subject. These books explain clearly, the idea of the importance of English through chapters, poems, short stories and the questions that follow.
NCERT English for Class 11th contains two books, namely Snapshots and Hornbill. These books are a compilation of exclusive stories and poems that will help you sharpen your knowledge of this subject. With English gaining popularity as a language, students need to be well-versed with its understanding as well as comprehension. The compilation of these two books guides a student towards gaining excellence in the subject. The prose and short stories have also been collected keeping in mind the latest syllabus released by NCERT for CBSE Class 12 Board exams since class 11th is a preparatory year for Board exams.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has designed books for class 11th in a student-friendly manner. NCERT English syllabus is broad and has so much to learn for students. To help students such as you, we provide English Snapshot Class 11 Solutions, wherein there is a detailed analysis of chapters and also provide questions and answers to the same. Referring to these explanations can help you understand the topics and the overall subjects better. Snapshots is a supplementary book that contains eight short stories, with exercises at the end, which will help you improve your vocabulary and reading and writing skills. Given below is the list of chapters you will find in the book:-
The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse; The Address; Ranga’s Marriage; Albert Einstein at School; Mother’s Day; The Ghat of the Only World; Birth; and lastly The Tale of Melon City.
This supplementary reader, based on the English syllabus for Class XI, is prepared on the lines suggested by the National Curriculum Framework for School Education, 2005. For young adults, awareness of personal development and growing independence begins at the higher secondary stage. It is during this period that they seek to understand themselves and the society that they live.
Literature plays a vital role in moulding young minds. The choice of stories and biographical sketches in Snapshots by contemporary writers exposes learners to the various narratives of life that the multiple kinds of the literature of the world offer. The stories deal with a range of human predicaments: moral choices in adolescents, as in William Saroyan’s ‘The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse’. Besides, the poignancy of personal loss and reconciliation that follows the war in Marga Minco’s ‘The Address’; and language and imperialism invading the rural setting in ‘Ranga’s Marriage’ by Masti Venkatesha Iyengar, also enlighten on similar notions. Professional commitment in A.J. Cronin’s ‘Birth’, an excerpt from the novel The Citadel, is also one of the important chapters. We also have J.B. Priestley’s play, ‘Mother’s Day’, an early comment on the acceptance of (and rebellion against) the assumed roles of men and women at home. Amitav Ghosh’s ‘The Ghat of the Only World’, is a touching tribute to Agha Shahid Ali, a Kashmiri poet who wrote in English, while Vikram Seth’s ‘The Tale of Melon City’ is a humorous satire set in verse.
The language of these stories allows learners to read on their own with only occasional support from the teacher or reference to the dictionary. Learners should be encouraged to read the stories at home, and the themes, narrative patterns and stylistic features, including the use of punctuation can be discussed in the classroom. It is hoped that this gateway to extensive reading will help learners imbibe language unconsciously.
