I have been playing the guitar and sing along for quite a few days. Now I want to improve my vocals as I am not classically trained. Will it be advisable for me as a working person who has some free time due to the pandemic?

Yes, why not? You can learn with your professional work too. I am into Hindustani classical for the past ten years, and recently I am pursuing MBA and has many other kinds of stuff. I also give time for teaching and my self-practice. If I can make it, you can also.

I am trained in Carnatic music, but I want to explore the field of playback singing. How should I begin?

Other than Carnatic music, try to have researched over other forms such as semi-classical music Bollywood music. Once you get ease with these different forms, then you can try playback singing.
