My background: Rohan Parakh is a candidate in the Master in Public Administration in International Development program at Harvard Kennedy School. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, he studied engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. While at college, he managed a nationwide campaign for Teach For India to help recruit Fellows to teach in public schools. He also launched and led citywide operations for Avanti Fellows, a social enterprise that provides disadvantaged students with after-school tutoring and mentoring to help them enter top colleges. After graduation, Rohan worked with TechnoServe for two years, where he designed and implemented large scale livelihoods programs in agricultural value chains and entrepreneurship development for USAID, the World Bank and IFC. For the past two years, Rohan has been running impact evaluations of microfinance products for development economists at MIT and University of Chicago. Rohan is working to develop a fintech product that uses insights from behavioral science and social network theory, and generates a credit score for potential borrowers based on community-reported information. In the long term, he aspires to be at the forefront of driving technology-led innovation in financial services in India.
