Understanding English grammar logically involves breaking down rules into manageable concepts and understanding the underlying principles. Here's a logical approach: Start with Basics: Begin with parts of speech, sentence structure, and basic rules. Understand the function of each element in a sentence. Identify Patterns: Look for patterns in grammar rules. For example, identifying patterns in verb conjugations or noun-verb agreement helps create a logical framework. Understand Rules' Functions: Understand why certain rules exist. Knowing the purpose behind a grammar rule can make it easier to apply logically. Practice with Context: Apply rules within sentences and texts to understand their usage in context. Contextual understanding makes grammar rules more logical and practical. Analyze Mistakes: Analyze your mistakes to understand why they occurred. This helps in identifying specific areas that need more attention. Use Logic for Exceptions: Recognize that some English grammar rules have exceptions. Instead of memorizing them, try to understand the logic or context behind these exceptions. Build Step by Step: Proceed step by step, gradually advancing from basic to more complex grammar concepts. This approach helps in building a strong logical foundation. By approaching grammar logically, breaking down rules into understandable parts, and practicing consistently, you can develop a more systematic and comprehensive understanding of English grammar. read less

Logic is to language and meaning as mathematics is to physical science. In order to understand how sentences – which are what compose language – work, it is necessary to learn to find their logical structure. This doesn’t tell us everything about the sentence, but it does provide a skeleton on which the other parts of the sentence can be fleshed out, the same way E=MC2 doesn’t tell you how matter converts into energy, just that it does. Luckily, logic is much, much simpler to learn than other varieties of mathematics. For one thing, numbers and arithmetic play no role whatsoever in logic. Logic is all about relationships between chunks of meaning, which are called Propositions. Propositions are composed of Predicates and Arguments. Roughly speaking, Propositions are the skeletons of sentences; Predicates are the skeletons of verbs (or adjectives), and Arguments are the skeletons of nouns (or pronouns). Almost everything else in a sentence is pretty much ignored in logic; it’s only interested in the skeletal parts.
