Shri Krishna Silambam

Shri Krishna silambam (an alliance of Sri bharatalaya) at Mylapore is run by Nadanamamani smt. Sudhalakxmi R, the artistic director of the Institution.
Sudha is a graceful pandanallur style Bharatanatyam dancer and had the privilege of being under the tutelage of Padma Sri prof sudharani raghupathy from the early age of five.
Hailing from a family with a rich musical heritage brought up in an atmosphere encompassed with music and dance, sudhalakxmi is the granddaughter of renowned vaggeyakara padmabhushan vidwan Madurai sri.N.Krishnan. She is a Bharatanatyam artist, trainer, reseacrch scholar,vocalist, composer who can also wield nattuvangam with Felicity: a recipient of Yuva Kala Bharati from Bharat kalachar and nadanamamani from Kartik fine arts.
At Sri Krishna silambam, we teach not only bharatanatyam but also marthagraham techniques that make the body flexible for the art form. It requires a performer to understand and appreciate music to be able to express the bhava by assimilating the mood of the composer and enjoy the dance form. We help students recognise and understand classical music too, making them realise that music and dance are inseparable entities. Talam or rhythm as it is otherwise called is another vital component in traditional dance, and we indulge students in learning nattuvangam too to improve their rhythmic sense.
