BODMAS stands for Bracket, Of, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction. In specific regions, PEDMAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction) is the synonym of BODMAS.
Let try to understand it in simple language.
Let take an example
3 + ( 6 + 12 ÷ 3 ) × 4 - 7 × 8
How you solve this problem? The student who doesn't know about this rule confuse about how he started to solve this problem.
Many students solve this problem in a straight way like. First, he adds 3 with 6 and then with 12 and then divide it with three then multiply it with four then subtract seven from it and finally multiply it with 8 and at last he got the answer 168. So, is the answer right? How he decides which operation is implied first and follow on.
To clarify following doubts about the use of operation and how to start solving such problem BODMAS rule is given.
In this question first, we have to solve the bracket and open it. Let take the bracketed value. There are two Operations there. First as given in BODMAS rule we have to use divide operation 12 ÷ 3 = 4 then we have to add it with 6; 6 + 4 = 10. Now open the bracket we have the equation
3 + 10 × 4 - 7 × 8
Now according to BODMAS first we solve the multiplication operation. Thus 10 × 4 = 40 and 7 × 8 = 56. Thus we get an equation
3 + 40 - 56 Now let add 3 with and 40 and subtract 56 from it. Finally, we get -13 as our answer.
Now I hope you must understand the BODMAS rule.
Thanks have a beautiful day!!
