When we divide a number by another number, there is a possibility of getting three types of decimals.
1) Terminating decimal
2) Recurring, non terminating decimal
3) Non recurring, non terminating decimal
1) Terminating decimals :- The decimals which terminate after a finite number when a number is divided by another number.
Ex: 2/5 = 0.4
13/4 = 3.25
125/8 = 15.625
2) Non terminating, recurring decimals :-
The decimals which repeat but never terminate.
Ex: 10/3 = 0.333333333.............
20/3 = 0.666666666............
26/7 = 3.714285 714285 714285.....
3) Non terminating, non recurring decimals :-
The decimals which neither end at some finite point nor repeat themselves.
Ex : √3 = 1.732....
√2 = 1.414....
Irrational numbers :-
The non terminating and non recurring decimals are known as irrational numbers.
