Hello Gaurav,

I am a physics teacher having experience of 9 years in IIT JEE coaching classes. If you want to prepare for IIT JEE then you have two options

1. 4 year integrated course class 9th to 12th

2. 2 year integrated course class 11th and 12th

if your financial condition is good then you should opt for 4 years course because it will build your foundation ver strong and you can also fight scholarship exams like NTSE, Olympiad etc. and your knowledge base will expand..there will be 3 days classes in a week so you will get enough time for self study also....

and if you opt for 2nd option then atleast make your maths and science a strong subject with help of your teacher or self study then start praparing for IIT JEE from class 11th by taking coaching..

i have one more thing to say that Nothing is impossible.. i have seen students who cracked good ranks in IIT by these two options and even some cracked with self study...so discipline and motivation is must for this journey to become an IITIAN...in my opinion option 1st is much better.

An IITian and an online maths tutor since 4 years.

Hi, currently i am doing PhD in IIT Bombay. I used to meet with UG people and mostly joined coaching institutes in, 9th or 11th grade and they were not going school but only coaching classes. If you don't have any financial issues then go for it. All the best!

In my opinion you don't need a proper coaching class as long as you are spending time in self studies practicing concept which are explained in your school class. Remember coaching won't give you something new, everything is covered in your taxtbooks. If you are having trouble in a perticular subject (or all of them), then you should communicate with your school teacher to find where the problem lies. In case they don't co-operate then i would recommend you getting some good tutor because they'll find your problem and guide you how to solve it. I think if you join a coaching class then you'll have a hard time managing your time schedule and ultimately you will feel stressed and won't be able to concentrate on either school or coaching. Also coaching class can't give you personal coaching so it is highly unlikely that your issue will be solved there. Go for coaching classes only when you can spare some time for self studies. In that case you have to most likely cut short your school timings.

It's expensive basically. 2nd you have to forego your schooling which is not advisable. Better to prepare along with school curriculum, which helps for wholesome development.

God No. Never!
Infact never ever join FIITJEE. Trust me on this one. I have wasted a huge sum of money and most importantly time over here.
There are various other ways to prepare for JEE, which are way way better than joining a coaching institute.
Try subscribing online video lectures. You will be able to learn things at a pace with which you are more comfortable with. If you want you can take correspondence study materials also.

The main disadvantages of joining a coaching institute is

  • They will teach you at a really very fast pace. Not everyone can grasp those concepts and formulas that quickly.
  • They will not go through the basics. They will assume that you have already mastered the basics and go with that.
  • You wont be able to manage both school and FIITJEE at the same time. In your school the teachers will teach you one chapter over here at FIITJEE another chapter will be going on simultaneously.
  • The price of study materials are hefty. For example a 30 page book will cost you 300/-.
