An indeterminate form does not mean that the limit is non-existent or cannot be determined, but rather that the properties of its limits are not valid. See, as you can calculate 15/3 =5; 24+24=48. But, in Mathematics, there are certain values which can not be calculated or you can't find answers to say for example 0/0. Nobody knows that what do we get by dividing 0 by 0.

Dear Akanksha, I will try to make it very simple to understand Indeterminate forms to you. For example there are 4 chocolates with you and you are waiting for some of your friends to come. You want to distribute 4 chocolates among them. Case-1- Let 4 friends visit you, what shall you do to distribute these chocolates? You divide 4 by 4 to get 1, so each one will get one. So you divided. Case-2- Let 2 friends visit you what shall you do to distribute these chocolates? You want to distribute it to 2 children. Divide 4 by 2=2 ,so each one will get two. So you divided. Case-3- Let 1 friend visit you, what shall you do to distribute these chocolates. You want to distribute it to 1 child. Divide 4 by 1=4 so her share is 4. So you divided. Case-4- Let no friend (0 number of friends) visit you, what shall you do to distribute these chocolates.? You want to distribute it to 0 no. of children. Now what shall you do now? Divide 4 by 0=?? No, there is no requirement of any division now (this is indeterminate action). So 4/0 is one of the indeterminate form. It is also not allowed in the definition of division since the nominator = 0. So 1/0, 0/0 , 0 raised to 0, and so many other expressions as Preeti ma'am replied above are in indeterminate form. Thanks for your interest. read less

Any thing whose value can't be determined such as 0/0 , infinity/ infinity, infinity/0 something like this. This situation we mainly face while solving limit problems in calculus where we can use L Hospital's rule to solve the problem.

A mathematical expression can also be said to be indeterminate if it is not definitively or precisely determined. Certain forms of limits are said to be indeterminate when merely knowing the limiting behavior of individual parts of the expression is not sufficient to actually determine the overall li...
