Electric Field-
It is defined as- E = F/q(test charge)
means force experienced by the unit charge. Its unit is Newton/coulomb.It is a vector quantity.
Electric Field due to a single charge at some distance r:-
since Columbian force F=K QXq/Rx
therefore, E = F/q = kQ/rxr.
Properties of electric field lines:-
1- E.F. lines originates from +q charge and ends at -q charge.
2- E.F.lines are not continuous closed loops.
3-Tangent drawn at any point gives the direction of E.F. at that point.
4- Two E.F. lines can not intersect each other. If they will intersect, then two tangents can be drawn, giving two directions a the same point which is not possible.
5- E.F.line contract longitudinally.
