Treating sodium phenolate (the sodium salt of phenol) with carbon dioxide at high pressure (100 atm) and high temperature (390K) - a method known as the Kolbe-Schmitt reaction and then acidification of the product with sulfuric acid gives salicylic acid.

By carboxylation of phenol called Kolbe's carboxylation.....Phenol reacts with Carbon Di- Oxide in Presence of NaOH and heat pressure to get Salicylic acid.
