A fictitious force, also called a pseudo force, d'Alembert force or inertial force, is an apparent force that acts on all masses whose motion is described using a non-inertial frame of reference, such as a rotating reference frame.

A physically apparent but nonexistent force felt by an observer in a noninertial frame (that is, a frame undergoing acceleration). Newton's laws of motion hold true within such a reference frame only if the existence of such a force is presumed. The centrifugal force is an example of a pseudo force.

It's a tool which allows you to apply newton's 2nd law of motion (F=ma) when you are working from a frame of reference which is accelerated with respect to ground in order to give you the same result which you otherwise get when working from ground frame..pseudo actually makes things consistent with the two frames...centrifugal is one such name. read less

No such force exists in nature. It's an imaginary force need to apply on object if working from non inertial frame of reference and only if Newtons Laws of Motion to be applied.

Pseudo force is also called fictitious force. A fictitious force arises when a frame of reference is accelerating compared to a non-accelerating frame. For example if you consider a person standing at a bus stop watching an accelerating car, he infers that a force is exerted on the car and it is accelerating. Here there is no problem and the pseudoforce concept is not required But, if the person inside the accelerating car is looking at the person standing at the bus stop, he finds that the person is accelerating with respect to the car, though no force is acting on it. Here, the concept of pseudo force is required to convert the non-inertial frame of reference to an equivalent inertial frame of reference. Another example Consider a ball hung from the roof of a train by means of an inextensible string. If the train is at rest or is moving with a uniform speed in a straight line the string will be vertical. A passenger will infer that the net force acting on the ball is zero. If the train begins to accelerate, then the string will be making an angle with respect to the vertical. For the passenger, there are only two forces and they are not collinear. But, the ball remains apparently in a state of equilibrium (as long as the acceleration of the train is constant). Here, the concept of pseudoforce is required. Pseudo force to be applied is equal to the mass of the body under consideration multiplied by the acceleration of the frame of reference and the direction of pseudoforce is opposite to the direction of acceleration of the frame. read less

A pseudo force is not real. It is an imaginary force we create just for the purpose of simplifying calculations ans easier understanding. Ex- In rotation while Centripetal force is a real one, we have created an imaginary force called "Centrifugal force" which will be exact opposite of Centripetal fo...

The notion of "fictitious force" comes up in Einstein's general theory of relativity. All fictitious forces are proportional to the mass of the object upon which they act, which is also true for gravity. This led Albert Einstein to wonder whether gravity was a fictitious force as well. He noted that a freefalling observer in a closed box would not be able to detect the force of gravity; hence, freefalling reference frames are equivalent to an inertial reference frame (the equivalence principle). Following up on this insight, Einstein was able to formulate a theory with gravity as a fictitious force; attributing the apparent acceleration of gravity to the curvature of spacetime. This idea underlies Einstein's theory of general relativity. read less
