As a behaviour trait analyst, I come across a common question as -
· HOW DO I FOCUS?
· HOW CAN WE ENSURE OUR CHILDREN FOCUS ON STUDY?
The answer I found to this is simple and yet it’s one of the many ways.
To reach for the answer, I want you to do a simple exercise.
Just close your eyes -------- recall a situation when you totally lost --say you were watching India –Pakistan cricket match, playing with your kid, making a painting, cooking a mouthwatering dish, / watching your favorite serial or a favorite program……..
And you could continue doing it for hours without getting tired. On the contrary, you were mentally fresh despite the amount of time spent.
Now, when you were in that situation, did you worry about other things in life? Did you even think of your office troubles? Fights with your spouse or friends? Were you bothered with your bank balance?
I am sure that there was no time for any worries/queries to enter your mind at that point of time?
WHY?
Because you were lost in doing what you like, what you love, what matters the most to you at that time.
In short you were FOCUSED.
It’s easy to be focused in what you love to do. But what if you do not like what you are doing?
Let’s go back to our childhood. When you were a child and you were told to eat a vegetable you don’t like?
To make you eat it, one of the parent, had shown the carrot of a chocolate or a promise to get you something in return. Some might have even got a threat of getting a whack. And then, you had just eaten that vegetable?
Similarly, all we need to do is identify that carrot than fear. As we reach for it, we have already passed the hurdle. It’s just that while we do so, we will not attach any significance to the hurdle as the focus will be on what we want.
In every situation there is something that we can take away - connect with our likes –what we want?
It may be as simple as, I have to finish the task to move on to next one at the earliest.
And, there you go FOCUSED again.
