I would suggest that you fall in love with the language;then language learning becomes easy.Mastering a tongue for its utilitarian ends is a transient goal and it could be easily swept away by the undercurrents of change.

People are less aware about as Portuguese here is less popular. Seeing the recent tie ups with Brazil , Portuguese is one of the best options. Currently in the Market there are very less numbers of Portuguese Language Speakers but has similar job prospects as demands have been very high in India. Its very difficult to find good Portuguese speakers and thus companies are ready to pay any salary. Currently among the European lot as per Demand which also depends on supply I would rate Portuguese on top, then German, then French and then Spanish. Among Asian language Japanese will be the top rated. read less

From the below copied text you get an idea of how many people speak a specific language. But numbers have little meaning as you can see Hindi stands at number 2 but will hardly assist you in reaching your goal. Sunitaji's advice is good. Germany at present is open to educated foreigners as their native population growth is becoming negative. Spanish and Russian have more number but not the job market you are seeking. Most spoken languages: The following table compares the estimates of Comrie (1998) and Weber (1997)[1] (number of native speakers in millions). Also given are the estimates of SIL Ethnologue (2005). Comparing estimates that do not date to the same year is problematic due to the 1.14% per year growth of world population (with significant regional differences). Comrie (1998) Weber (1997) SIL 1. Mandarin Chinese 836 1,100 1.205 (1999) 2.-4. Hindi+Urdu 333 250 422 (2001)[2] Spanish 332 300 322 (1995) English 322 300 309 (1984) 5.-6. Arabic 186 200 323 (2008) Bengali 189 185 171 (1994) 7.-8. Russian 170 160 145 (2000) Portuguese 170 160 178 (1995) 9. Japanese 125 125 122 (1985) 10. German 100 100 95.4 (1994) This table shows that for the world's largest languages, it is impossible to give an estimate of the number of native speakers with a certainty better than 10% or so. Diverse but ethnically unified[clarification needed] languages like Chinese and Arabic are particularly difficult to define, and estimates consequently show uncertainties of the order of 25%. read less
