My teaching experience 12 years

Initially, the Bass guitar is easier to play than guitar because you are not learning to play chords, you are learning single note based parts, kind of like a singer sings one note at a time… so the Bass plays a part one note at a time.

Well, if you are confident that you can learn then go for it, music is not cheap so you have to pay. Ear training is not an option to teach, a music teacher must need to teach along with the sight reading.
