The main differnce between them is javascript is a scripting language runs in your browser, any brower (i.e, chrome, firefox).For the client side form validtion we can use javaScript.Where as Servlet and Jsp are both server side programs .Mostly JSP are used in View layer ,for example showing the data.Servelts are used as controller between JSP and database and user submited form's .

JavaScript is a light weight scripting language as it provides a way of executing a coupe of dynamic functions on runtime/input data provided by user at browser end before submitting it to the backend server for further execution and at the same time the usage of JavaScript must be cautious as it is a possible trigger for a variety of vulnerabilities identified so far at client end.
