because mat gives you cushion while practising, helps you to proctect your body from getting hurt. Also mat helps you to practise in a symmetry during asanas & cotton mats create energy in itself, store your energy when you practise on the mat every day. you must practise on mat only ...more

honestly night is the not the right time. there are some practices which can be practised before bed for improving sleep quality. but the right time to practice yoga is either morning or evening at empthy stomach

firsly its an restorative asana which means it helps you to get relaxation. and specially very beneficial asana to relieve the back pain, helps to expand your back and helps in breathing related disorders. At the same time it helps to increase the capacity of lungs.
