The NCERT Class 7 Maths, Chapter 2 deals with Fractions and Decimals. Fraction and Decimals have already been discussed in the previous classes. You have learnt about the proper, improper and mixed fractions, and also the addition and subtraction of Fractions. The previous classes also dealt with a comparison of Fractions, equivalent fractions and representing Fractions on the number line. Decimals is also a concept, which is not newly introduced in Class 7, it has been studied in the previous Maths syllabus. The topics which you already know dealt are the comparison of Decimals, their representation on the number line and their addition and subtraction. In both Fractions and Decimals, you have studied about addition and subtraction, not the other operations.
In NCERT Class 7 Maths, Chapter 2, one will learn about multiplication and division of Fractions and Decimals. To know more about this Chapter, let’s look at the topics and sub-topics of this Chapter:

Section 2.2 – This section deals with the topics already dealt with in the earlier classes. This section acts as a revision before moving on to the new topics. There are exercises related to the types of Fractions and also addition and subtraction of Fractions, which will help you to brush up the learnt concepts.
Section 2.3 – This section deals with the Multiplication of Fractions. In this, you will learn to solve problems on multiplication of Fractions. It will help you to learn the steps and procedures involved in solving problems on multiplication of Fractions. There are various exercises which deal with the multiplication of a fraction by a fraction and multiplication of a fraction by a whole number. You’ll learn to multiply fractions and find the product when the numbers are in the form of fractions.
Section 2.4 – This section deals with the Division of Fractions. Here’s where you will learn the division of a fraction by a fraction, division of a fraction by a whole number and division of a whole number by a fraction. This section focuses on the concept of finding the reciprocal of a given fraction to solve the problems on division of fractions.
NCERT Class 7 Maths, Chapter 2 is divided into two parts – one being Fractions and the other Decimal Numbers. Fractions and Decimal Numbers are two concepts very related to each other. These have a lot in common. Decimal Numbers are an outcome of Fractions. These two topics need to be learnt together, in order to understand the properties and procedures well.
Section 2.5 – How well have you learnt about Decimal Numbers- This section deals with the concepts already learnt in the earlier classes. It helps you recall the basics before moving on the multiplication and division of Fractions. You can revise properties of decimals, addition and subtraction of Decimal Numbers. The exercises in this section, help you to understand the further concepts better, and make it easier to learn the new operations.
Section 2.6 – This section deals with Multiplication of Decimal Numbers. You can learn the properties of Decimal Numbers and the steps to solve the problems on multiplication of Decimal Numbers. The operation of Multiplying whole numbers is slightly different from multiplying decimal numbers. Decimal Numbers have whole numbers and fractions expressed in the form of decimal numbers. You need to be careful while multiplying Decimal Numbers as placing the decimal point at the right place can give the correct answer. Even if one position of decimal number goes wrong, the whole answer is incorrect.
Section 2.7 – This section deals with the operation division of Decimal Numbers. The process of dividing Decimal Numbers is very different from the division of whole numbers. The main concern is about placing the decimal point. In this section, you learn the division of Decimal Numbers by 10, 100 and 1000, dividing decimal numbers by a whole number and division of decimal numbers by another decimal number.
