Seven mistakes you could be making as a new piano learner

It’s thrilling when you get your first piano lesson. As time passes by, the thrill wears off and learning piano looks more like a routine job. Adding to it, when you don’t move to the next level in your piano classes you almost feel like giving it up. Before you find yourself in such situation, here are few common mistakes new piano learners make and know how to avoid them: Common mistakes to avoid for Piano beginners 1.      Practicing irregularly After the initial thrill of playing a piano wears off, beginners often find it difficult to get into the habit of practicing piano regularly. There is always one or other priority that comes up and playing piano becomes a secondary thing. If you are serious about learning piano, you need to find time and practice on a daily basis. Initially, you may find it hard to play piano regularly but when you become involved and dedicated, you will slowly start making time to play piano every day. Practice makes a man perfect, so practice regularly to become an expert pianist. 2.      Setting the piano at a wrong place Whether it is exercise equipment or musical instrument, you should always place it at an easy location. Why? If you set your piano at a place which needs a little adjustment every day before practicing, then you are more likely to stop playing piano. Keep your piano at an easily accessible place, to reduce one of the bottlenecks of not playing piano every day. 3.      Playing continuously without taking a break When you play a musical instrument non-stop, no matter how much you love playing it, you are sure to feel like a chore over a certain period of time. Take a break in between your piano practice sessions, so that you can return and play with more passion. 4.      Never venturing beyond comfort zone The first few chords or songs are every piano beginners’ favorites. Most of them love to play them over and over again. But playing the same songs or chords won’t take you far. Every piano beginner needs to learn some new notes so that they can challenge themselves and keep learning something new. 5.      Playing too fast too soon Learning piano needs dedication and passion and not speed. Beginners feel the need to learn piano at a faster pace and play it soon. But to excel in any musical instrument, you will need to go slow to understand all the important techniques of piano. You may want to learn fast but your equation with the piano needs time and practice to establish an excellent coordination to create great music. Learning piano is like learning a new language, you need to first learn the alphabets, vowels, words, grammar and then construct them in a sentence, to convey a meaningful message. Once you crossed the first stage it is difficult to come back and learn the basics of piano again. 6.      Using fingers and hands incorrectly Placing and using your fingers and hands properly are the key to learning how to play a piano well. Because the way you move and use your fingers and hands on the piano will vary your music output. Unless you learn how to piano fingering appropriately, your piano lessons would remain incomplete. Initially, you may depend on the editor’s instructions which fingers to use to play a song and as you gain expertise you can create your own. 7.      Not learning from past mistakes People who start learning piano newly often doesn’t listen to the output of their own music. It is important that beginners start recognizing their flaws and learn ways to improve their music and piano playing skills. Ability to concentrate in your piano sessions and learning from mistakes is essential, to go to the next level of learning piano. Looking to learn piano?
