We can use "integration by parts" method here.The formula is: ∫u v dx = u∫v dx −∫u' (∫v dx) dx +CHere let us take, u=log(x) and v=1; then ∫log(x)dx = log(x) * ∫1 dx -∫(log(x)' * (∫1.dx)) dx +C = xlog(x) -∫(1/x * x )dx +C = xlog(x) -∫(1)dx = xlog(x) -x +C ...more

No, the axis of rotation can be either stationary or moving. But when the axis is moving, we can analyse the movement of axis and rotation around the axis (as if the axis is stationary) separately. Then we can combine both results. So studying the rotation around a fixed axis is essential.
