Answered on 09/10/2019 Learn CBSE/Class 9/Science/Unit 1-Matter - Its Nature & Behaviour/Atoms and Molecules/NCERT Solutions/NCERT Exercise 3
Answer :-
a)Given mass of oxygen gas = 12 g
Molar mass of oxygen gas ( O₂) = 2 x 16 = 32 g
No. of moles = given mass / molar mass = 12/32 = 0.375 moles
b) Given mass of water = 20 g
Molar mass of water (H₂O) = 2 x 1 + 16 = 18 g
No. of moles = given mass / molar mass = 20/18 = 1.11 moles
c) Given mass of carbon dioxide = 22 g
Molar mass of carbon dioxide (CO₂) = 12 + 2 x 16 = 44 g
No. of moles = given mass / molar mass = 22/44 = 0.5 moles
Answered on 09/10/2019 Learn CBSE/Class 9/Science/Unit 1-Matter - Its Nature & Behaviour/Atoms and Molecules/NCERT Solutions/NCERT Exercise 3
Answer :-
(a) Molar mass of ethyne, C2H2 = Mass of C × 2 + Mass of H × 2
= 12 × 2 + 1 × 2
= 24 + 2
= 26 g/mol
(b) Molar mass of sulphur molecule, S8 = Mass of S × 8
= 32 × 8
= 256 g/mol
(c) Molar mass of phosphorus molecule , P4 = Mass of P × 4
= 31 × 4
= 124 g/mol
(d) Molar mass of hydrochloric acid, HCl = Mass of H + Mass of Cl
= 1 + 35.5
= 36. 5 g/mol
(e) Molar mass of nitric acid , HNO3 = Mass of H + Mass of N + Mass of O × 3
= 1 + 14 + 16 × 3
= 15 + 48
= 63 g/mol
