SCRA 2015 Exam - Comprehensive Information & Tips

SCRA is an exam to select and appoint candidates as Special Class Apprentices in Mechanical Department of Indian Railways. The exam is scheduled to be held on 18th January, 2015.

SCRA 2015 Exam

Eligibility: Candidates falling under the following category are eligible to apply for SCRA exam: Nationality I.    A Citizen of India II.   A Subject of Nepal III. A Subject of Bhutan IV.  A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or V.   A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, The United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates applying under II, III, IV and V need to provide a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India. Age Criteria: A candidate must be between 17 - 21 years as on 1st January, 2015 which means he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1994 and not later than 1st January, 1998. Age Relaxation:
  1. Up to 5 years for SC/ST
  2. Up to 3 years for OBC
  Applicants who are applying under the Reserved Categories need to produce their Caste Certificate as and when requested. How to Apply? All detailed information on how to apply is available in the UPSC website. All application has to be submitted online. No other mode of application is available for SCRA exam. Last Date to Submit Application: The last date to submit application is on 7th November, 2014. The window is open till 11:59 p.m. Admission Certificate Candidates can download e-admission certificate from UPSC website: www.upsc.gov.in, three weeks prior to the exam date. No Admission Certificate will be sent at Postal Address of candidates. Also candidates are advised to have an active email address, which they have provided at the time of filling online application, as the Commission may use electronic means to contact with candidates. SCRA 2015 Exam Plan The SCRA exam will be conducted in two parts -- I and II. Part I is a written examination carrying a total of 600 marks. Part II exam is conducted only for those candidates who have passed the Part I Written Exam. It is a personality test carrying a total of 200 marks. Difficulty of questions will be that of Intermediate Standard. There is negative marking for wrong answers in the Objective Question papers. The exam pattern is of Objective Question Type (multiple choice answer) and the questions will be set in English language only. Candidates must write the answers themselves. Under any circumstances, applicants will not be allowed to use the help of a scribe to write answers for them. The Commission has the sole discretion to fix qualifying marks for any or all of the subjects. Part I Paper I General Ability Test (Code 01) -- Duration 2 Hours -- 200 Marks
  • English This section will test a candidate’s understanding and command over the English language
  • General Knowledge The GK section is designed to evaluate a candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him/her and its application to society. The answers to the questions should be of 12 Standard.
  • Psychological Test This section is designed to assess a candidate’s basic intelligence and mechanical aptitude
Paper II Physical Sciences (Code 02) -- Duration 2 Hours -- 200 Marks
  • Physics Physics questions will be based on topics covered in 12th Class. Candidate should have comprehensive knowledge about the various aspects of Physics.
  • Chemistry Here too candidates need to have in-depth knowledge about various Chemistry concepts and apply them to solve problems.
Paper III Mathematics (Code 03) -- Duration 2 Hours -- 200 Marks The Mathematics section of SCRA exam tests a candidate’s basic understanding of Mathematical concepts taught in 12 Standard and how efficiently they can use their understanding to solve mathematical questons. What not to bring? Calculators are not allowed inside the Examination Hall. Please make it sure you don’t carry it inside the testing room. Tips for SCRA Exam Preparing for the SCRA exam requires strategic planning to cross the hurdle. Here are few useful tips listed for you: I.            Have complete conceptual clarity on all the subjects -- Math, Physics and Chemistry. II.          Practice English grammar and vocabulary questions. It’s better to have complete clarity on Grammar rules. III.        Prepare a study plan and work accordingly. Always stick to your schedule no matter what. IV.         Keep yourself updated with current happenings around the world. Read newspapers, magazines and reference books. This will help you a lot in the GK paper, and Part II exam, where your personality will be evaluated. V.           Get hold of the exam pattern by going through previous question papers. VI.         If you have any doubt, get it clarified before the exam VII.       Disconnect from Facebook and Chat Applications, to focus only on the exam.
