The subject in the painting is very important. However, artist over a period of time from ancient cave painting to postmodern have depicted their choice of subject matter in different styles. The cave paintings are the response to a visual narration of daily life activities which includes portrayal of animals, humans and decorative motifs. As artist developed their painting styles and moved from depiction of mytholoigical, see renaissance or classical painting, characters to representing line , colour, form and shape as the main subject matter for the painting. For instance, Paul Jackson created his paintings without representing any naturalistic forms but used layers of dripped lines to make his paintings.

To do a master's in Fine Arts while holding a bachelor's degree in Science, you need to go for a one-year bridge course in the specific department, eg. Painting or History in Arts, you want to achieve a master's degree. You may apply for the same in Visva Bharti at Santiniketan, MSU Baroda or JJ school of Arts Mumbai.
