Speaking in public in front of the audience always creates a kind of unease in most of us. We have people undergoing fear when they face strangers. But we have been speaking in public right from childhood in an informal way example in front of friends. Here we never experienced this fear. One would ask that then why does one fear when we grow up and need to communicate the same way in corporate life.
This reason attributed to this is our Comfort Zone. Once we could strike a comfort zone with our audience, then you see yourself breathing normally and shoulders, arms and lets relaxing. After this, you are in the ZONE(COMFORT).
There certain three basic thumb rules while presenting.
1. Speech – The basic necessity for speech in the knowledge of the language is Words.
“Words have magical power. They can either bring the greatest happiness or the deepest despair.” Sigmund Freud
2. Body movements – While presenting not only your mouth speaks but also your whole body. The hands to be above the waist level and should move according to the tenor of your speech. For beginners, they should be at ease with both legs equally divided to take your weight. You can move around- Front, Left, Right based on requirement when addressing a particular part of the audience and move back to centre.
3. Connect to as many individuals in the audience as possible by looking towards them. A word of caution that your gaze should be temporary and you can move on to another person.
The above are some basic points to make you start off on a journey and remember that PRACTICE MAKE ONE PERFECT.
Thanks and Bye for now
