Hello there,
This is first of the series of tips that I intend to write about for those interested in preparing/ taking their English competitive exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, CELPIP, PTE:-
(a) Well, most of us start with a mind-block or scare of performance anxiety before the test. My advice to all of you is to stay calm and not worry much on how you will perform. Invariably, having experienced it all my life, I can assure you that you 'll score much better if you stayed relaxed and focused during the exam.
(b) When you read about the subject/ topic of the listening section, you should think actively about that topic. It helps you in collating the words and thoughts in your mind that you may associate with that topic. It further helps in easily pre-empting the answers when you start answering the questions as you listen.
(c) Do not get perturbed if you are unable to answer and the verbal section has moved ahead. Try to re-focus on location in the questions and get yourself back into the test. Many times, if you think right on the context of the problem, you can guess the answer quite accurately.
