A cursory glance at GRE, GMAT, SAT, ACT, LSAT and exams that students need to surpass in their efforts to study abroad reveal that students who take up these exams need to figure out that the following are the expectations and requirements that they need to measure up to in their efforts to do well in these and similar exams, and in fact all exams that that are related to further studies and career related exams:
Expectations -
1. Good reading habits
2. Ability to understand good quality language
3. A good, if not excellent, understanding of vocabulary
4. Ability to understand tone and tenor of passages
5. Ability to understand basic language structure and correctness or lack of correctness of presented text, particularly when the task involves figuring out errors or possible errors in language that need identification and correction
6. Ability to understand shifts, changes in direction, or parts of passages when a new sub-theme is taken up to support the main theme or explain the main idea
7. Information or data pertaining to the topic sentences of passages
Requirements -
1. Understanding of simple language, structure, and elements of language
2. Understanding of how phrases and idioms play a role in descriptive language
3. The role of vocabulary
4. Contextual application of vocabulary
5. Understanding of how paragraphs are structured and how they are interconnected to form the whole passage
Regular reading habits, along with active learning while Reading and Learning, are crucial to do well in language tasks. Reading and Listening are Receptive Skills, and are key for building and enhancing Writing and Speaking Skills
