Aari Embroidery This form of embroidery dates back to the 13th century and is thought to have come from the East to Egypt then to Greece and Rome from where it travelled with the Roman conquests to England and then to Kashmir, its cradle in India. Crewel, by definition, is the application of a variety of stitches to the surface of following a design applied to the fabric. Back in the earlier centuries it was referred to any embroidery technique using fine wool worsted yarns; however the traditional patterns of motifs, highly stylized floral, tree of life, birds, geometrical and animal designs, etc., are now made on almost every kind of base fabric, using a variety of threads of create a textured and colour. In India Crewel is called aari and derives its name from the hooked crochet type needle, used in this kind of embroidery called the Aar. The design to be worked on is transferred to the plain fabric using transfer pens, containing water soluble ink, iron-on designs or the traditional way of "pinprick and chalk". The fabric is then fixed tight over a wooden frame (called adda). The needle is pushed through the fabric and from the other side, the thread is placed into the hook of the special needle and pulled up again - it comes up as a loop. For the next stitch, the needle goes through the loop and comes up with another loop through the previous loop and so on like ine chain stitch.... The finer and smaller the stitches, the better the embroidery is considered, amongst other factors. After the embroidery part is over the stitches are usually beaten with a wooden mallet from the top on a handheld wooden anvil. We’re happy to offer Aari Embroidery Classes in our Priya Tailoring Institute. This Aari Embroidery class will teach you from the basics to end and makes you to portrait your blouses or dresses with the beautiful embroidery by yourselves Aari Embroidery classes (Saturday & Sunday class timings 2pm to 5pm) We are taking Orders for Wedding Blouses with Aari Embroidery.
