Nowadays, Kids are too fast. There are no such age limitations to learn Carnatic Music. But I suggest you make the kid listen to Carnatic music-related songs before joining the kid in a music institute. Approach a good teacher to make your kid learn. Listening is the best practice for grasping the subject fastly.

Good that you are trained in Carnatic Music. I suggest you learn film music from one of the guru's. There is a vast difference in playback singing when compared to Carnatic Music. So one needs quality training to know the technicalities in playback signings. You can also try Smule or Starmaker, which shows your skill set level, and you will be soon aware of improvement areas.
