An interview is the MOST important step to finding an employment or an opportunity. While our education, certificates and achievements are important , they tend to take a back seat while we are assessed purely on what we do during and interview and how we respond to the interview questions to get considered for the job or opening.

A little bit of research work and preparation helps a lot while responding to questions in an interview.

Some sample questions are given here to help you prepare :

  • General Questions (prepare well for this segment)
    1. Tell me about yourself
    2. What are your goals ? (long term and short term)
    3. Tell me your strengths and weaknesses
    4. Tell me about your experience / studies
    5. How did you become interested in subject/industry (e.g. Automobile sector)
  • Behavioral Questions (take care in answering these )
    1. How do you handle change?
    2. Tell me about a decision you made recently and how did you reached it
    3. Do you have leadership qualities? Please explain
    4. Do you find it easier working in a group or alone
    5. Have you ever faced criticism? What did you do ?
  • Interest in the Organization
    1. What do you know about our organization?
    2. What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing organizations such as ours?
    3. What two or three things are important to you in your job?
    4. Describe the ideal job for you following graduation
    5. Are you ready to relocate?
  • Why should we hire you?
    1. Do you think your grades good? Why isn't your grades higher?
    2. Tell me about your accomplishments
    3. What makes you better than the others who came for this interview?

You may face a few of these type of questions or even others - it is better to prepare well and make sure that your answers are well rehearsed and you are able to communicate freely without any problems. Remember a candidate with poor communication skills never gets selected even if his educational credentials are excellent.
