I'm a final year student, and I want to learn Japanese to get a good job there. How long will it take to learn the primary Japanese language, i.e. speaking, writing and reading for me? Also, please tell me how can I qualify for JLPT tier 2 as soon as possible as it is essential for me.
Hi,
The Japanese language has five levels like JLPT N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1. If we talk about the N5 level, it includes scripts, reading, writing and listening to the Japanese language. It's an 80-100 hours course, and the book I refer to is "Minna no Nihongo", which covers 1- 25 chapters. Same for N4 or N3, it will take at least 80-100 hours for each level. For job purposes, you should go at least till N3.
Thanks!
Harsh, you can simply learn the Japanese language. It's not complicated once you will understand the basic and the correct way of Japanese learning. Finally, you will able to learn it.
From my perspective, each student has different learning skills, so some can achieve their target in 2-3 year; on the other hand, some take 3-4 year for the same.

Hello Bhaskar,
To answer your question, please understand that there are a total of 5 levels in the JLPT examination. N5 being Beginner level, you need to complete upto N3 level to have good command over the Japanese language. N1 level is known as Expert level, and if you complete it, you are recognised at par with Native speaker.
Ideally, you will require anywhere from 8 months to 12 months to complete upto the N3 (Intermediate) level, while basic levels can be completed within 6-8 months.
It depends on the field you are from. If it is in IT, then the basics of the Japanese language can be taught in 4-5 months, assuming a one-hour session every day of the week and an employable level of language in 9-10 months. If you are from another field, then the trainee will need a higher level of Japanese, ranging from 1.5 to 2 years as in Japan, one is considered employable after N3 or N2 level, which take 1.5 to 2 years. But for one, who wants to learn to speak, the basics of the language will take 2-3 months.
To qualify for JLPT tier 2, if one has absolutely no experience with Japanese then, it takes close to 1.5 years at the least.
