I わたし Watashi

You あなた Anata

Suffix meaning nationality ーじん -Jin

PATTERN - Noun 1 wa Noun 2 Desu. (Noun1 は Noun 2 です。)

The particle Wa (は) indicates that the words before it is the topic of the sentence. You select a noun you want to talk about, add Wa (は) to show that it is the topic and give a statement about the topic.

Example :-

  1. Watashi wa Maiku Miraa desu.       わたしは マイク・ミラーです。            I am Mike Miller
  2. Watashi wa Enjinia desu.              わたしは エンジニアです。                  I am  an Engineer.
  3. Anata wa Gakusei desu.               あなた は がくせい です。           You are a Student.
  4. Watashi-Tachi wa Indo-Jin desu.    わたしたち は インドじん です。    We are Indians.

Nouns used with Desu(です) work as predicates.

  • Desu(です) indicates judgment or assertion.
  • Desu(です) also conveys that the speaker is being polite towards the listener.
