A covalent bond is the chances of finding electrons via electron sharing among atoms (non-metals especially). Carbon (Atomic no - 6) develops strong bonds mostly with other elements due to its small size, allowing its nucleus to hold the shared pair of electrons very firmly. It has electronic configuration - 1s2, 2s2, 2p2; meaning it has 4 electrons as valence shell. This means it can either share its 4 electrons or accept electrons from others based on the octet rule to achieve stability. In an ionic bond, it has to sacrifice one or two electrons, and it will consume a lot of energy. However, a covalent bond is like sharing the love like brother and sister. Both atoms have to share their electrons to stability, and that is why carbon favours a covalent bond.
