SPANISH CONJUGATION: The present tense

 

 

In Spanish, there are three groups of verbs: 

 

1st group: verbs that end with AR

 

2nd group: verbs that end with ER

 

3rd group: verbs that end with IR

 

There are also pronominal verbs that end in SE

Llamarse

In the 1st group, in the present tense, verbs end with O, AS, A, AMOS, ÁIS, AN

 

In the 2nd group, in the present tense, verbs end with O, ES, E, EMOS, ÉIS, EN.

 

In the 3rd group, in the present tense, verbs end with O, ES, E, IMOS, ÍS, EN.

 

Notes: in all groups, for the 2nd person in plural, there is an accent: á – é – í 

 

Llamar is to call – Llamarse is literally to be called: Me llamo.....: my name is...

 

Learn some regular verbs:

 

AR: HABLAR (to talk) – CANTAR (to sing) – ANDAR (to walk) – ACCEPTAR (to accept) – BAILAR (to dance)

 

ER: COMER (to eat) – BARRER (to sweep) – BEBER (to drink) – COMPRENDER (to understand) – CORRER (to run) - 

 

IR: ABRIR (to open) – DECIDIR (to decide) – DESCRIBIR (to describe) – APLAUDIR (to applaud) – ASISTIR (to attend)
