Guitar being from a western source should always begin with a professional western classical teacher. (Classical guitar with nylon strings are healthy for hand techniques and posture building)
If you are interested in Hindustani classical, then go for a special voice or sitar class. Don't mix up things !!
They are very complex in their tradition and style.
Later things will merge when the students advance. But to begin with start with a simple traditional method which has worked for generations and will continue for generations to come.
Choose the right teacher who has had a professional background and not self-taught, non-professional people who play only Bollywood songs or pop numbers to impress the general audience.
Choose wisely for a kid. They are like slate. Don't mess it up with ideas. Give them to a good teacher!!
