How to prepare for UGC NET Exam 2019?
UGC NET exam, being a national level test, is considered as one of the toughest & trickiest exams to crack. It determines a candidate’s eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Assistant Professor only posts in several universities and colleges within India. Since this is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) all the questions will be objective type consisting of two papers, i.e., Paper I and II conducted in a single session.
Let us have a look at the papers in details-
In Paper-I: The questions in Paper-I will be generic in nature. Questions will mostly be related to teaching/research. Paper-I will be designed to test the general awareness, reasoning ability, divergent thinking and comprehension of the candidate.
Candidates preparing to take up the UGC NET exam must prepare themselves for 10 categories in Paper-I. These categories are-
1. Teaching Aptitude – Questions will be mainly to test the teaching capabilities of a candidate hence, candidates need to prepare themselves with topics such as learner’s characteristics, factors affecting teaching, evaluation system etc.
2. Research Aptitude– For this topic, candidates need to prepare themselves with questions related to research and methods of doing it.
3. Reading Comprehension– A passage will be given to read and answer the given questions. In order to crack this reading comprehension part and to develop reading skills, candidates can start improving by reading newspapers, stories, editorials, business magazines, etc.
4. Communication– Candidates need to understand the concept of communication. Its nature, types, characteristics and effectiveness in the classroom.
5. Mathematical Reasoning– This part will involve solving questions without using any mathematical formulas but through non-numeric ways.
6. Logical Reasoning– This part will test a candidates’ ability to think and problem-solving skills. The questions here are mainly brain teasers and sometimes can be quite tricky to answer.
7. Data Interpretation– this section will have questions on Ratios and percentage. It is a good category to score marks.
8. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)– this section will have questions on the meaning of ICT, its advantage, disadvantage, basic of internet etc. other related to this concept.
9. People and Environment– This category will have questions related to the environment to test a candidates knowledge in which they are living.
10. Higher Education System– Governance, Polity and Administration- This section mainly tests the candidates’ knowledge about the laws related to the Higher Education System and its structure.
Paper-II will be purely based on the subject selected by the candidate.
Since this paper is based on the subject of interest of a candidate, they are required to prepare themselves thoroughly. To make the preparations easier candidates can follow the below-given points to ace Paper-II in the upcoming exams.
Proper Study Plan: Prepare a time table for all the sections and start studying accordingly.
Practice Previous Year Papers and Mock Tests: Practice makes a man perfect. Start practising previous year papers as many questions are repeated and take a mock test every day to improve your speed and accuracy.
Focus on Important Topics: It is advised to go through the syllabus and put more focus on important topics first.
Improve your weak areas: Work out on your weak areas and spend more time improving.
Managing time: Learn time management as it will help you get some spare time for revision.
