IELTS test of writing is a one hour test which comprises of two sections. The test is all about the essay or descriptive writing. The two tasks will be focusing on different text type such as a report, description, discussion etc.
In the writing task 1, you will be given a task based on graphic information (Academic), and you will be expected to write a detailed report with close to 150 words. Overviews are a considerable part of Writing task 1. Without a good one, it won't be straightforward to get a high score. To score high in Task Achievement, you will need to provide a well-written overview paragraph. This section is entitled to a time of 20 minutes. None more or none less.
Writing section should be entitled to spending more time on Task 2 than Task1. For Task 1, it's advised not to write down every detail. Take notes on the significant trends and relationships between two graphs if there are two graphs or diagrams. Using a variety of vocabulary when describing degrees of change can be helpful. For example, words like 'minimal, slight, gradual, moderate, considerable, significant, substantial, enormous, dramatic' etc.
To sum up, you will be assessed on your writing skills such as the style of writing, grammar, the ability to express your ideas, clarity. Moreover, how well you have organized your answers and how well you can build a detailed report on given information.
