If you require special requirements to write your IELTS exam, you must give the test center three months’ notice. The special arrangements available will depend upon the examination board and in some cases you may be exempted from a part of an exam because of a disability or difficulty. You need to submit the documents regarding special arrangements with medical evidence eight weeks before the test.
IELTS Special arrangements that you can request
Hearing and speaking difficulties –
If you are suffering from partial hearing loss, you can ask for the permission to use headphones or special amplification equipment. You are not allowed to use Walkman, MP3 Player or personal stereo.
If you are suffering from total deafness, you can ask for a lip reading version of the listening test.
In speaking test you can ask for the extra time if it takes longer than usual to say things or to understand what people say to you.
Visual difficulties –
If you are partially sighted, you can make use of the magnifying glass, handheld scanning apparatus and you can ask the reader to read and re-read questions for you.
You can have an enlarged question paper and a amanuensis to write down your answer.
If you are completely blind, you can ask for brailed and modified question papers.
Learning difficulties –
If you have dyslexia or any other learning difficulties, you can ask for extra time.
You can also ask for an answer paper or you can write directly on the question paper if you have any problem answering on the computer marked answer sheet.
