India is the land and originator of Yoga. mahrishi patanjali is the one who is known to be the one who 'invented' yoga per se. There is a book known as patanjali yoga sutras, there's also a knowledge series by Gurudev Sri sri ravishankar ji on the same.

Although they both involve concentration and breathing, meditation is a practice of cultivating awareness of our habitual thought patterns, and pranayama is a practice of refining breathing ability and awareness of prana flow.

Sage Maharshi Patanjali Though Yoga was being practiced in the pre-Vedic period, the great Sage Maharshi Patanjali systematized and codified the then existing practices of Yoga, its meaning and its related knowledge through his Yoga Sutras.
