The second part in the course of PTE exam is Reading section.
Total time allotted for PTE Reading section is 32-41 minutes.
In the PTE Reading section, there are five kinds/types of questions that you can expect.
They are:
a) Multiple choice single option question
Number of questions : 2-3
After reading a content , you have to answer a questions based on the given content. Please note, you have to select only one correct answer. Your answer will be highlighted with yellow. There is option to deselect your preferred answer and opt for another option, until you move to the next question.
b) Multiple choice multiple option question
Number of questions : 2-3
In this MCQ type question, you have to select multiple answers for the same question from given options. The question are based on a given content. You only need to select all the relevant right answers by highlighting it with yellow.
c) Re-order Paragraphs
Number of questions : 2-3
Based on the given content, you will be provided with a list of incidents in a jumbled queue. You have to arrange the incidents in correct order, as mentioned in the content. Here, the incidents are provided in separate boxes that you have to drag top/bottom to arrange accurately.
d) Fill in the blanks
Number of questions : 4-5
You will be provided with a content which will have gaps. You have to fill them with a provided set of words. Same words cannot be used multiple times to fill up the gaps. Here the text and the content is placed distant. You have to drag each word to its corresponding gap and place correctly.
e) Fill in the blanks with drop down menu
Number of questions : 5-6
In this kind of fill in the blanks, you have to fill gaps in the content with options that will be provided in a drop down menu. When you solve PTE mock tests or sample papers, you will get accustomed to the pattern of this question type of PTE Reading section. This kind of question also comes in PTE Writing Test.
The tips to crack the PTE Reading section:
a) Computerized exam pattern
As the entire PTE exam is computerized, its important for students to learn the basic technicalities and QWERTY keypad pattern. If unknown to the basics of computer, students will find it difficult to complete the PTE Reading test in allotted time.
b) Focus on yellow highlight
As the PTE Reading test has many MCQ questions, please note when the optional answers are highlighted with yellow, then your answer is accepted by the machine. If you leave a PTE Reading question without yellow highlight, you might not be marked for the same.
c) PTE Reading strategy
As the Reading section of PTE exam has many content to read, here is an easy alternate to that. For each content, you can start with a fast read and then move on to the questions. After reading each questions, find similar keywords in the content (as mentioned in the question) and map your answer.
d) Skipping PTE Reading questions
Do not skip questions in PTE Reading exam. On doing so, you wont be marked at all for a particular question. In case you do a guesswork for the answers you don’t know, you have the scope of getting marked. Don’t leave that scoring opportunity.
e) For Re-ordering paragraph questions
In this, do read the content before hand and also after you complete arranging the sequence. This is mainly to ensure that your answer is absolutely correct.
